On Jan. 27, tens of thousands of people took to the National Mall in Washington D.C. to protest the Iraq war and President George W. Bush’s plans to send 21,500 more troops to the country.
The antiwar rally was hosted by United for Peace and Justice and drew people from all over the United States. Celebrity activists Jane Fonda, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sean Penn and others also joined the demonstration.
Protesters marched through the streets near the Capitol carrying signs, singing songs and sending messages of peace. The demonstration lasted several hours and had one clear message bring the troops home.
